Pitch and conditions
Steve Rouse, the Edgbaston groundsman, is among the many who believe a result will be difficult to achieve over the next five days. Heavy rain drenched the West Midlands on Wednesday, and is expected to continue for several days yet. When play does commence, Rouse is expecting another low, slow surface which should suit England's batsmen down to the sodden ground.

Not much of a crowd in yet, there's a bit of cloud cover but no threat of rain as of now. Dambulla hasn't been very kind to batsmen in the past, the average score by a team batting first in a day game is 175. Add to that the strong bowling possessed by both sides, this match may not be the run-fest most ODIs are these days.

England vs Australia 2nd Test Live Score Streaming

Welcome to England vs Australia 2nd Test Live Score Streaming

Lord's is a place for the captains to star. Andrew Strauss missed out twice in the first Test, scoring 30 and 17, and needs to inspire his batting team-mates after they all gave away reasonable starts last week. The home of cricket is also Strauss's county ground for Middlesex, so he knows everything about the revered address. He has not scored a century here since 2006, but has reached triple figures three times on the way to averaging 58.17 in 11 matches.

Ricky Ponting, who has made 27 runs in three Test innings at Lord's, must stand up if his side is to maintain its intimidating batting intensity. In Cardiff Ponting breezed to 150, becoming one of four Australian century-makers, but the second Test will be played in different conditions and against a team that now remembers the last hour of batting, not the 181 overs of bowling.

Team news
Strauss wants to go with five bowlers - Ian Bell has been released from the squad - but his biggest worry is Flintoff's injured knee. Flintoff is bowing out of Tests at the end of the series and will be desperate to play while Steve Harmison is acting as his cover. Graham Onions was in the squad in Cardiff but didn't get a game, increasing his chances of appearing at Lord's, where two spinners are not a viable option.

England (possible) 1 Andrew Strauss (capt), 2 Alastair Cook, 3 Ravi Bopara, 4 Kevin Pietersen, 5 Paul Collingwood, 6 Matt Prior (wk), 7 Andrew Flintoff, 8 Stuart Broad, 9 Graeme Swann, 10 James Anderson, 11 Graham Onions.

Stuart Clark will be talked about but don't expect any changes to Australia's XI. Ponting should confirm the side later on Wednesday and it would be a shock if any of the players who pushed England last week are omitted. Brett Lee remains out with a stomach problem.

Australia vs England Ashes 2009

The aggressive approach of England's tail knocked the stuffing out of Australia as 99 runs came in 16.5 overs during a momentum-seizing period of play. However, in a match that has already been characterised by numerous shifts in power, Katich and Ponting managed to ride out a fiery period after Hughes had been rattled by Flintoff's terrific opening burst.

When Australia finally ended England's merry stroke play they had half-an-hour to bat before lunch and Hughes was immediately into his stride with a succession of handsome off-side boundaries. There was a plan to target him with the short ball, but both James Anderson and Stuart Broad offered too much width and allowed Hughes to free his arms.

After the interval, though, the challenge went up a few levels as Flintoff was immediately thrown the ball for his first spell. He began with three rapid bouncers to Hughes from around the wicket, probing the middle-and-leg line that Steve Harmison utilised for England Lions, throwing in a few verbals for good measure, then beat the left-hander with one that cut away off the seam.

It was a marvellous duel between a seasoned campaigner and a young, cocky batsman with Flintoff coming out on top. Switching to over the wicket he cramped Hughes for room as he tried another cut and Matt Prior held a sharp, low chance to his right as Flintoff stood in the middle of the pitch, arms aloft in celebration.

India

vs

West Indies

Date: 05 Jul 2009

West Indies innings began two hours late and was interrupted thrice due to rain, and further intervals initially readjusted India's target to 195 in 27 overs before a further shower reduced it to 159 in 22 overs. In the end, thanks to MS Dhoni's unbeaten hand, India won in the final over with six wickets in hand.

"It definitely helps a team batting second in this type of set up," said Kirsten. "It did suit us to be batting second because you can dictate the game a little better when the overs are shortening in terms of what you need."

India went into the final over needing 11 and Dhoni hit the second ball from Jerome Taylor over midwicket to leave India on course for victory. "Someone like MS Dhoni can hit the ball out the ground at any time so it was comforting knowing that we had him at the crease controlling the game," said Kirsten. "He's had a magnificent series and he's played some really good one-day cricket for us. When it comes down to the wire it can go either way, the most important thing is that you have game breakers and match-winners in at that situation.

India

vs

West Indies

With the series level at 1-1, West Indies will be keen to take an unassailable lead in the third game at St. Lucia and Morton made his intentions clear. The series is level 1-1. As always I will be looking to win, he said. We will be looking to put in another good team effort as we showed in Jamaica. Players are putting their hands up and putting in good performances and we are confident.

Morton has opened in each of his 52 ODIs and boasts a decent record, averaging 35.19 with two centuries and ten fifties. However, he started off batting at No.3 in the domestic circuit, but said he found no difficulty in adapting to the role of an opener in international cricket. "Being a No. 3 throughout my career there was not much of an adjustment to move up to open the batting with the captain," Morton said. "It is all about dedication and application and backing myself to do the job. I aim to stay positive."
